Areas of Practice

Data Protection

By following the 3-2-1 backup principle, you can protect your data. You need (3) copies of your data with (2) of them on different media and (1) in a separate location. By combining proven backup software, purpose-built storage hardware, and the fastest cloud storage service, you can make the 3-2-1 backup principle work for your business. Best of all, the whole process can be largely automated.

Computer Maintenance

By keeping your computers adequately maintained with the most recent Windows operating system patches, security fixes, and system feature releases, your computers present a reduced “attack surface” for cybercriminals. Patching and updating your computers is accomplished using a suite of tools that substantially automates and completes the process in less time.

Network Defense

The Domain Name System or DNS is the building block of the internet. Everyone uses it to locate other computers, applications, and services on the internet. Unfortunately, everyone includes bad people too. To defend your network, you need a Protective DNS (PDNS) service to block your computers from accessing bad domains and IP addresses. A PDNS service installs no hardware or software on your computers. The PDNS server IP addresses are added to your computer network configuration to achieve safer internet use.

Power Protection

Without hesitation, I recommend that every computer in your environment be used with an appropriately sized Uninterruptible Power Supply or UPS. I have worked with UPS units from American Power Conversion (APC) for many years. I have ten APC UPS units in my home and office to supply emergency power and surge protection for all my business and home electronics.

Network Infrastructure

Your local network infrastructure includes cabling, data jacks, patch panels, patch cables, equipment cabinets, switches, and routers. An organized and labeled network infrastructure makes it easy to maintain and troubleshoot. No one likes to work on a “spaghetti network” where one false move can break something. Having your network documented gives you a handle on what you have and how it is put together. That makes my life easier and will cost you less in the bargain.
