On the Internet,
where everything is potentially connected to everything else, you need
to keep the bad guys out without making it impossible for your people to
use your systems or for your customers to do business with you.
You need good
security at the gateway(s) to your network. You need to block the
spread of
“spam”
and
“malware.”
You need to keep unapproved devices from using your network. You need
to manage the identities of users and customers. You need to filter
Internet access. You need to retain e-mail messages. You need computer
use policies that everyone understands and supports.
Network security
is not just an outside-in defensive undertaking. Locked doors and
badges are good for some things but not everything. To deal with
multiple security threats you need a unified threat management approach
to network security. So if anti-virus software is your idea of network
security, then you need to work with someone who can give you the bigger
picture.
