Once your PC is
out of the box your management job is just beginning. There are
software and printers to install. Security updates to schedule.
Patches and
“bug
fixes”
to be applied. Software licenses to keep track of as well as the
computer hardware configuration. Ad hoc methods invariably break-down
due to lack of attention. You need to use proper systems management
tools to support what you've got and to keep you informed.
Networked PCs and
laptops can be hardware and software inventoried. Licensed programs can
be tracked for actual use. Applications can be centrally installed,
uninstalled or repaired. Directory-enabled policies can limit user
control over the PC or laptop. Remote control allows you to quickly
take over a PC or laptop to better support the user.
The typical remedy
for a badly messed-up PC is to manually re-install the operating system
and applications. Easy to say...hard to do. It is a tedious and
time-consuming proposition that requires you to locate everything you
need in order to re-build the system. PC imaging and PC virtualization
products can eliminate the terror when a system won't
“boot”
or becomes unusable due to frequent
“lock-ups”
or
“crashes.”
