Groupware collaboration servers evolved from email servers once it became apparent that email was not the most ideal way for teams to work together.  Groupware expands the use of email to include threaded messages or discussions, shared notes, shared documents, shared calendars and other Web 2.0 media like instant messaging and Web blogs.

Today, groupware platforms or portals are Web server based and peer-to-peer (P2P).  You can choose to manage your own groupware servers internally or go peer-to-peer or subscribe to a groupware application hosted in the cloud (Internet) by a Software as a Service (SaaS) provider.

Groupware also includes the Wiki (Hawaiian word for quick), which is a popular Web based tool that allows any number of users to collaborate on creating documentation or a knowledge base.  Some Web sites are even setup as a Wiki.  Wikipedia is perhaps the best known Wiki on the Internet.  Social networking is where it is at.  So where are you?
